Experts of the Russian Security Council discussed ways to combat the falsification of photos and videos created using deepfake technology on the Internet, the press service of the Russian Security Council apparatus reported.

“At the meeting of the section on information security problems of the Scientific Council under the Security Council, it was noted that in the conditions of mass distribution of photo and video content on the Internet, the threats of using deepfake technology that replaces the visual personal data of Russian citizens for illegal purposes are increasing”

Experts of the Security Council of the Russian Federation believe that this problem is complex and requires the formation of a legal and technical framework to ensure information security.

In this regard, the meeting of the scientific council discussed countering threats related to the use of falsified photos, videos and audio recordings, the press service reported.

“Interested federal executive authorities are recommended to conduct research and development work to substantiate methods and create means of identification of modified audio, photo and video content, as well as to develop measures for regulatory regulation of the use of said content”

Equally dangerous is the dissemination of fake information that is not related to personal data. For example, several reputable websites have published information with video footage of military equipment and information about the military coup in China. As it turned out later, the information disseminated does not correspond to reality.
